F2F, Face 2 Face, or Face to Face, is part of a set Limited Edition Art Prints by Nellie Maan from her new modern art range.
F2F also known as Face Time questions what it means to be face to face with someone. In a world where people seem more capable of communicating with each other by simply texting across the table than by actually talking to each other. Are we losing the art of talking in a social setting? Are we listening to what people are saying to us as we stare head down at our phones? Is it more important to answer the phone than let the person you are with finish their sentence? Are we absent from the present time as we focus constantly on the next engagement or activity?
The art piece depicts people F2F enjoying some quality face time together. The muted colours almost convey an autumn of a by gone era. A time when people spent more time in a social setting. When people made eye contact and gave each other full attention when talking and listening. An era when people immersed themselves fully in the interaction without the constant interruption from the phone. A time when people stopped to enjoy each other’s company.
The working methods used in the art have been developed over a number of years using a range of media. The textures that Nellie produces are rich and varied. The balance of texture to white space with the use of strong black lines along with the limited colour palette defines the unique style and gives it the clean fresh look.
